Tailored Support

Whether you’ve never worked before or are long term unemployed and looking to get out of the house for a little while and start building your confidence up again, or if you’d like to progress quickly into work/within work, or maybe you have a business idea you need help to progress, or grow an existing business, Working for Families can help you.

The North Lanarkshire Employability Grant Programmes are delivered in partnership with local employability providers with the aim of supporting families to become better off by helping parents to move towards and into work, or progress into higher paid employment.

These projects are fully funded by North Lanarkshire Council and FREE for parents who are unemployed or in low paid work and live in North Lanarkshire.

Working for You

‘Working for You’ will support you if you’re unemployed and looking to get into work, start your own business, or already have a business that you’d like to grow.

If you’re unemployed, a key worker will be on hand to provide support and advice on:

  • CV writing
  • Interview tips
  • Job applications
  • Job searching
  • Access to online learning

If you’re looking to start or grow an existing business, a business advisor will be available to provide advice on:

  • Marketing/market research
  • Business and financial planning
  • Cash-flow
  • Sales and pricing
  • Finance, bookkeeping and basic accounting
  • HMRC, tax and VAT
  • Risk and contingency planning
  • Sourcing suppliers

Your business advisor will also support you to build your confidence and motivation, learn how to network effectively, set goals, develop a growth plan for your business and provide access to other support networks such as Business Gateway.

CAB2Careers

‘CAB2Careers’ will offer you an independent, holistic assessment of your needs focusing on preventing crisis. You’ll be supported to look at the underlying issues of food, fuel poverty and debt, with advice to help you to maximise your income, after which a personalised development programme will begin.

This programme is made up of two key phases:

  • Phase 1 will focus on personal development and life coaching, with a selection of personal development 1-to-1 or group sessions to select from.
  • Phase 2 will allow you to complete in-house vocational training and voluntary work/work placements

Transforming Lives, Young Parents Employability Programme

‘Transforming Lives’ is aimed at young parents aged 16-24 years old. This is a holistic and supportive employability programme, which has been designed to assist you to provide a better life for yourself and your child/ children. You’ll be offered a tailored personal and social development programme, providing intensive support, to address additional barriers and provide you with core employability skills.

Impactful Parents

‘Impactful Parents’ is a 12-week programme, two days per week, which embeds creativity in all of its activities with an emphasis on using visual arts to improve your health and wellbeing.

One Parent Connections

‘One Parent Connections’ will offer you individual one to one support to help lone parents get the challenges of family life, childcare and employment/education/training right. The project aims to improve the quality of life for you and your family.

Next Steps

‘Next Steps’ provides tailored support to parents to progress closer to employment. Support will be provided to help with:

  • Your physical or mental health and wellbeing
  • Financial guidance and advice on specialist support
  • Family budgeting

You will also be offered tailored employability support/work experience to increase your confidence. This will include work placement/tasters, to boost your skills and motivation to progress into a role that is suitable for you.

Progress for Parents

‘Progress for Parents’ has been designed specifically for parents who are disabled and/or have disabled children and who have long term health conditions to support them to progress towards, into and within work.

You will receive specialist 1:1 support from a qualified employment specialist who will be with you for your full vocational journey. You’ll be offered the opportunity to access nationally recognised qualifications and be provided with welfare rights/income maximisation advice to ensure your household is in receipt of all the benefits that are available to you and ensure you understand the financial impact of starting work. You also have access to a bespoke employability customer portal online – providing you with tailored resources and training 24/7.

Clinical Support Programme

‘Clinical Support Programme’ is delivered in partnership with NHS Lanarkshire. Through the delivery of employability and clinical skills training you’ll be provided with an effective pathway into employment as a clinical support worker with NHS Lanarkshire. You’ll progress into work placements on hospital wards where you’ll receive further mentoring.

The following costs will be covered:

  • Childcare
  • Travel
  • Workwear for your placement (tunic, trousers, shoes etc).
